Why sharing your experiences of maternity care is important
Women from Black ethnic groups are four times more likely to die in pregnancy than those from white groups, and women from Asian ethnic backgrounds are almost twice as likely.
These startling statistics are from a UK report on maternal deaths. Southwark is one of the most diverse boroughs in the country. 40% of our population are born outside the UK. This means these inequalities are likely to impact a higher proportion of our residents.
As a result Southwark Council have set up a commission to look at Southwark’s maternity care and they want to hear from you.
